Senior Consensus Engineer Full Time (Remote)

As a Senior Consensus Engineer specializing in Rust, you will be a key player within a team of highly skilled software engineers dedicated to building and maintaining cryptocurrency node software.You will be responsible for implementing, optimizing, and maintaining a high-performance consensus algorithm that powers our network. You will also contribute to adding and integrating additional modules written in Rust, including components such as database layers, networking layers, and REST APIs. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the backbone of our innovative cryptocurrency platform.

Responsibilities & Requirements

• Analyze, architect, and develop improvements to our existing BFT consensus algorithm based on research specifications.
• Maintain a consensus codebase that powers our mainnet.
• Drive these initiatives to successful completion by collaborating effectively across teams including Research Scientists, Software Engineers, and DevOps.
• Ensure the security and integrity of consensus protocols against various attack vectors.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in blockchain technology, distributed systems, and consensus algorithms.
• Foster a transparent and open work environment, engaging actively with the IOTA community on GitHub, Discord and crypto conferences.
• Guide and mentor other engineers in the team.

Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on blockchain or distributed systems.
• 3+ years of experience with Rust programming.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing BFT consensus algorithms.
• Experience with low-level languages like C++, Golang or (ideally) Rust including experience in concurrent and network programming.
• Basic understanding of cryptographic primitives (hashing, digital signatures, certificates, PKI) and how to properly use them.
• Knowledge of database technologies (key-value data storage paradigm, e.g. RocksDB)
• Proficiency in networking protocols and frameworks (e.g. libp2p, TCP, QUIC)
• Experience in designing and implementing REST APIs.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
