At Energy Web we believe that public, open digital infrastructure is as integral as physical infrastructure for the secure, reliable operation of a highly decarbonized and distributed energy system.
That’s why we’ve designed the Energy Web Decentralized Operating System (EW-DOS) as a “narrow-waist” protocol, purpose-built to connect an unlimited number of decentralized applications, platforms, and markets with the billions of customers, assets, and technologies that comprise the grid. EW-DOS makes it easy for anyone – from the world’s largest energy companies to innovative startups – to build applications on their laptop and instantly deploy them at enterprise scale.
If you’re passionate about achieving a decarbonized, democratized, decentralized energy future and you want to play a critical role in building the open-source technology that will make it possible, then read on!

Why you’ll love working at EWF:
We are seeking a Solidity Developer to join our team and help build and scale the Utility Layer of the Energy Web Decentralized Operating System (EW-DOS), an open-source software stack to create the digital infrastructure to decarbonize the grid. On any given day you might find yourself developing smart contracts to enable Service Provider and Patron staking in Switchboard, working with internal DevOps team to scale Utility Layer services across multiple geographies and cloud environments, or making strategic decisions about the broader EW-DOS technical roadmap.
What will you do?
You’ll develop the foundational components that support enrollment, subscription, and enforcement of decentralized service level agreements in the Utility Layer.
What are your responsibilities?
You are a strong candidate if:
Location, travel, and timeline: EWF is a globally distributed organization with regional hubs in Berlin (Germany), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Zug (Switzerland), and Colorado (USA). The preferred location for the Solidity Developer is one of EWF’s office hubs, but qualified applicants in other locations may be considered. International travel (up to 10% of the time annually) to EW events in Europe, North America, and Asia may be required in the future if health and safety conditions allow. The desired start date for this role is November 2021.
Reporting: This position will work across multiple EW development teams and report to the Utility Layer Solution Architect.
To Apply: Please complete the application form below, including a 1-page (500 words max) cover letter explaining why you want to work at EWF and summarizing your key qualifications for this role. Applications that do not answer the question “Why do you want to work at EWF?” will not be considered.
About Us
Energy Web Foundation is a global technology nonprofit accelerating a low-carbon, customer-centric electricity system by building an open-source digital Operating System to address the rapidly increasing complexity of modern electricity grids worldwide. Our mission is to catalyze the development and adoption of Web3.0 solutions that increase the utilization of green energy and reduce carbon emissions at the gigaton scale.
To do so, we work with our global network of Member organizations to develop and deploy the Energy Web Decentralized Operating System (EW-DOS), a full stack of decentralized infrastructure services and software development toolkits focused on self-sovereign identities, renewable energy markets, and grid integration of distributed energy resources. It’s all anchored by the Energy Web Chain, the first open-source, enterprise blockchain platform tailored to the energy sector.
