Findings of the Report:

The first quarter of 2025 signals a promising outlook for the blockchain protocol jobs market for the remainder of the year after a seemingly bleak market sentiment that prevailed throughout 2024. This optimism is reflected in the numbers: Q1 of 2025 saw around 470 job openings posted by the top 40 blockchain firms, in contrast to fewer than 350 jobs listed during Q1 of 2024, marking a rise of 34% in job offers.

The percentage bifurcation between the technical and the non-technical (Business) jobs also witnessed a shift, with the technical segment accounting for 56% of the total published jobs against 60% recorded in the corresponding quarter of the preceding year. The Business job segment noted a surge in demand, going from 44% in 2025 to 40% in 2024 for Q1.  This shift highlights the fact that demand for non-technical and business professionals is also picking pace within the blockchain ecosystem.

Most In-Demand Blockchain Technical Roles [Q1/2025]

Reclaiming its spot from Backend development as the most coveted technical role for Q1 of 2025 is Full stack development, accounting for up to 16.5% of the total technical job market, a 4 percentage points increase over 12% recorded in the previous quarter. The second position is then claimed by the previous quarter leader, Backend development, joined by the DevOps role, accounting for 12.40% each. Both of these roles comprised 10% of each of the market in the preceding quarter. The remaining approx 41% of the technical roles are spread across positions such as Security/ Testing, Data, Technical Product Management, Research Engineering, and Mobile development, among others.

Among the most desired skills in technical profiles are Rust, Solidity, Golang, and Typescript, all of which seem to be maintaining their consistency over the years. The remaining share of business job advertising is largely distributed among Legal/Compliance, Ecosystem, Community / Social media, and human resources.

Key Blockchain Skill Trends [Q1/2025]

Noticeable surge in Web3 mobile application development: As the industry moves towards mass adoption and user adaptability, web3 mobile applications are experiencing a significant spike in demand, pertaining to better user interfaces, greater ease of use, and convenience of availability at users’ fingertips, compared to the complex and limited experience navigating the world of blockchain and crypto via desktop browsers.

The growing popularity of cold wallets, multisig wallets, Web3 authentication apps, and decentralized trading exchanges, has further accelerated this transition from web to mobile platforms. This shift is swiftly reflected in the rising demand for Kotlin developers.

High demand for regional compliance and regulatory experts: Every region possesses its unique set of operational complexities, particularly when layered with the already intricate legal frameworks surrounding blockchain. This combination of global blockchain regulations and localized legal frameworks makes compliance a highly challenging task.

Resultantly, firms are actively looking to engage dynamic local community and ecosystem managers, fluent in regional languages and well-versed in regional trends, who can prove to be a strategic edge in growing economies.

Opportunities for AI talent in the blockchain space are rapidly rising: As the integration of artificial intelligence into blockchain applications gains momentum, there is a growing need for skilled professionals who can harness the power, and bridge the gap between these two emerging technologies. Smart contract optimization, predictive analytics, and real-time processing of a plethora of on-chain and off-chain data are just some of the arenas of possible amalgamation of AI and blockchain, unlocking their true combined potential.
